Cornelius Medvei selects some of his favourite fictional talking animals (as distinct from real-life talking animals, ahem) for The Guardian.

I enjoyed Medvei’s novelette Mr. Thundermug — mostly for its calm, easy narrative voice, but also for its brevity and focus.
